Where in the World is Mark Davis?

Globe Trotter

Our classmate, Mark, loves traveling all over the world.  He's agreed to share some of his many adventures with us.

800 Mile Bicycle Trek

I just finished bicycling about 800 MI on the Oregon and Northern California coastline, pretty good trip.

I started in Eugene Oregon in the last week of May and finished up in Santa Rosa at about June 19th.  On my two-wheel trek, I covered about 800 mi.

Some of the nicest weather was in Brookings, Oregon and south of there it wasn't actually rainy but these dense fogs would really soak everything.

Despite the wetness, cycling in the fog is pretty comfortable .

You don't get as hot especially on the climbs.

However evenings in camp tended to be surprisingly cold and I don't think I really took off my Patagonia jacket till I finished the trip, arriving inland in Santa Rosa, where it was quite a bit warmer.

Other Trips

This trip [800 Mile Bicycle Trek] would be considered small compared to other ones I've done that crossed Australia, went from San Francisco to Mexico, went from Norway to Switzerland or Italy to Denmark.

One of the longest went from London to Turkey, which included riding down the Danube River, going south along the Mediterranean coast of Turkey and then inland to an area called Cappadocia, which is famous for caves that have been inhabited for maybe 5,000 years.

In fact there are ancient underground cities as much as seven levels deep into the Earth which contained tens of thousands of people and their animals.
